Almost reaching its end-of-life, the Verizon’s HTC ThunderBolt is not selling to customers anymore since months ago. On the principle better late than never the first LTE enabled handset from Verizon, initially running Android 2.3 Gingerbread will get the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade in the next few days.
For almost two years, since launching in March 2011, HTC Thunderbolt owners were waiting for the promised Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade. The upgrade first programmed for August 2012 didn’t came and HTC reconfirmed in December that the update is going to come up soon. We can’t know if it is the carrier to blame or if the Android manufacturer was being very slow and imprecise on the release dates for their software updates but HTC Thunderbolt owners might have been revolted as Samsung and Apple are definitely making much effort in providing latest Android updates, as critical ICS update for their top and also older devices came on time.
Verizon has created a support page for the Android 4.0 update for the HTC ThunderBolt. So now we have an update, issued in 2013, which brings a 2011 OS to the 2011 handset HTC ThunderBolt. After downloading and installing software update 7.02.605.06, users will be welcomed with Android 4.0.4 and HTC’s Sense 3.6. UI version.
The update is about 400MB in size and after the update process is successfully completed, ThunderBolt’s users will have the following additional changes and features included:
