HTC One Google Play Edition with Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean will start shipping by July 9

HTC One Google Play Edition with Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean will start shipping by July 9

Google is gearing up to launch another Android smartphone, this time in conjunction with HTC. This announcement was made by Google’s SVP of Android, Chrome and Apps, Sundar Pichai during the recent D11 conference. The device would be very similar to HTC One, with the difference that HTC’s Sense user interface would be replaced by stock Android Jelly Bean 4.2 operating system. This smartphone, HTC One Google Play Edition, is sold with a price tag of $599 on the Google Play store. The sales have started from June 26th.

This is not the only stock Android related announcement that has recently been made by Google. Previously, the tech giant also announced to release Samsung Galaxy S4 with stock Android via its Play Store, which would be available at a price of $649. Like the other one, this device would also be released on June 26.
It would certainly be pretty interesting to see both these giant high-end devices in Nexus-style Android versions. HTC is already offering a similar device via its own retail store called HTC One Developer Edition available at a price of $649.99. This device offers 64 GB of internal storage capacity, in contrast to the 32 GB available with the Google version, as well as an unlocked bootloader. The difference of this device with the one Google is about to offer is that Google device would have stock Android and the updates would coincide with Nexus devices and Galaxy S4 Play version. Another difference in the software is that HTC version comes with Jelly Bean 4.2.2 while the Google version would run Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1. Other than these prominent differences, both devices would be quite similar and the overall user experience would not be much different.

Announcing the stock  of HTC Google device, Sundar Pichai said that the user experience on this device would be quite uniform throughout the world. He further said that such devices are now being made the priority of Google and the company is striving for an operating system that would be quite consistent for all the devices in the world.

A clear edge that Google stock device offers over its HTC counterpart is that it would have support for GSM networks. For the time being, the device would only be launched in the US and the worldwide launch would follow at some later point in time. HTC One is already one of the most successful high-end devices in the market and with stock Android in place, its popularity would certainly enhance.
