HTC financial results to be improved in 2013!

With a market share and net profit falling down for the fifth consecutive quarter to its lowest level since 2006, HTC had perhaps the most difficult year in 2012.

According to market-research firm International Data Corp, HTC’s global smartphone market share, went down from 10.3% in 2011 to 4% in the third quarter of 2012. In the same quarter of 2012 Samsung global market share was 31.3%, followed by Apple’s 15%.

Back in 2010, HTC gained market share fast due to its early adoption of Google’s Android operating system and it was the largest Android smartphone vendor in the U.S.

Having now a weaken position in US, the company is focusing on other emerging markets and especially on the Asian markets. It also won’t be easy considering the intensifying competition of the Chinese companies Huawei Technologies Co and ZTE Corp.

After having information from HTC top management motivational speeches of encouraging the several thousands of employees and also from  previous Peter Chou, HTC chief executive officer declarations on sales and marketing strategies for 2013 in accordance with Apple settlement, a new interview given by HTC chief executive officer is supposed to make light in HTC 2013 previsions.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Chou said the company had to face the intense competition and also did not enough for marketing its products.

“Our competitors were too strong and very resourceful, pouring in lots of money into marketing. We haven’t done enough on the marketing front.” Despite the difficult times he was positive about the future, continuing with:

“The worst for HTC has probably passed. 2013 will not be too bad.” “Although we don’t have as much money to counter [Samsung and Apple], the most important thing is to have unique products that appeal to consumers,”

HTC has also adjusted company’s strategy on products, sale and marketing efforts and even hired a new marketing chief who had served at Motorola Asia Pacific, in order react quicker to changing markets.

“One thing I’d learned from last year is to act fast and be responsive to market changes,” is what Mr. Chou said. “We are being more flexible now. We are constantly fine-tuning our sales plans and position in various markets,” he added.

However analysts are skeptical about HTC’s future taking in consideration the hardly competitive environment of smartphone market in Q1 2013 when Samsung and Nokia are going to launch new flagship smartphones. On the other HTC did a good job with the innovative first industry 1080 display Droid DNA and Butterfly smartphone series that are also selling fairly well in Japan.

We’ll probably have news at the end of February, at the Mobile World Congress when HTC is usually renewing its products. We love to have a lot of choices and hope to see HTC back on top 3, as the company also aims for the future. That’s before we see a struggling and monopolising battle between Samsung an Apple.
