Over the last few quarters, HTC has done very well in the domain of high-end smartphones. However, on the other hand, the company’s devices from the mid-range and lower end are not receiving much attention and worse yet, their popularity is declining. So it seems that HTC has decided to give this matter its due attention with the launch of some nice mid-range and low-end phones. HTC Desire 601 happens to be one such phone.

HTC Desire 601 is the first phone from the Desire line to be shipped with LTE support and initial impressions of tech critics are quite positive. The physical structure of the device bears similarities with HTC’s flagship One X. While we do find some remarkable HTC features on the phone such as BoomSound, Sense 5 UI, BlinkFeed and Zoe Share, its body is made of a rather cheap polycarbonate material.

Speaking of the technical specs of this phone, we have here a 4.5-inch qHD display having a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. It is powered by 1.4 GHz Snapdragon processor along with a RAM memory of 1 GB. Internal storage is 8 GB but it can be augmented up to 64GB using the supported microSD card. Then we also have support for DLNA and Bluetooth 4.0. HTC has to make a few tradeoffs to ensure low price of the phone. One such cut was to ditch the Ultrapixel Tech for its camera. Instead, the company went for the traditional 5 megapixel camera which also works perfectly well for entry level cameras. Then there is also the front facing VGA camera mainly designed for video chatting or conferencing on Skype etc. Although there is nothing really remarkable about the cameras, they do serve the purpose very well.

There would be three color choices on HTC Desire 601: White, black and red. The phone does seem quite alright when we compare it to other entry level devices in the market. The actual worth would be known in a few days when it is released. Another similar entry-level phone from the Desire series that HTC is putting in the market is Desire 300. It features 512 MB RAM, 4 GB of internal storage, 1 GB Snapdragon processor and 5 megapixels backend camera. This phone is also set to hit the market sometime in October, so we are soon going to have two entry level Desire phones.
